What's On In Kiev
On February 20th 2017 Ukraine held events to honour the memory of the "Heavenly Hundred Heroes" who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Ukraine. In November 2013, Viktor Yanukovych reneged on a promise to sign an agreement with the European Union and instead sort closer ties to Russia and Putin. It sparked a massive civil uprising which became known as Maidan. Under the tyrannical regime of Yanukovych, government forces were ordered to shoot the peaceful protestors. 107 protestors in Kyiv (Kiev) were killed and many injured. Yanukovych fled to Russia along with Billions of dollars stolen from the state budget. Three years after the start of Maidan, the people of Ukraine are still asking why no-one responsible has been brought to justice.
