On March 22nd 2021 the Ukrainian government introduced mandatory polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for foreigners traveling to Ukraine. Visitors to Ukraine can enter the country if they have insurance, and proof of a PCR test done less than 72 hours in advance. It is recommended you do not travel to Ukraine without a negative PCR test result.
From July 2, 2021, all foreign citizens, citizens of Ukraine, holders of a permanent or temporary residence permit, stateless persons who arrive from India, Great Britain, Russia or Portugal or have been on their territory for more than 7 days within 14 days, are required to undergo a rapid test to determine the antigen of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus at checkpoints (control points) across the state border.

What is a PCR Test?
PCR is the abbreviation for Polymerase Chain Reaction test. The PCR test looks for evidence that the Corona virus is currently in your body, by detecting the presence of its RNA in a swab sample from your nose or throat. The PCR test is able to detect the genetic material in the virus called RNA. When the sample is sent to the lab, a solution known as a ‘reagent’ is added to it. If the virus is present the reagent starts a ‘chain reaction’ and creates billions of copies of the genetic material in the virus so that there is enough that it can be detected and analysed by scientists to provide a positive result.
The "Red Zone" consist of countries where COVID-19 cases numbers in the last 14 days have higher case numbers in Ukraine and/or where the incidence has increased by over 30% in the previous 14 days) are required to undergo 14 days’ self-isolation proven by the “Dii Vdoma” tracking app, or quarantine in a Government-approved facility for 14 days upon arrival. Visitors who come to Ukraine from 'red zone' countries can stop self-isolation after they receive a negative PCR test. If a visitor takes a PCR test and receives a negative result no more than 48 hours in advance of his/her arrival in Ukraine, or once in Ukraine, then mandatory self-isolation or quarantine will not be required. In all cases, persons from the red zone countries should install mobile app "Dii Vdoma" on entering Ukraine and be on self-isolation for 14 days, or on self-isolation before receiving the test results.
Citizens of “Red” countries who can prove that they have spent the last 14 days in “green” countries are treated as arriving from the “Green zone”, and will not be required to Self-isolate. Visitors whose travel originated in a “Green” country but who have visited a “Red” country prior to arriving in Ukraine (for example, those travelling by car transiting “red” countries) may be required to self-isolate or quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. Mandatory self-isolation or quarantine will not be necessary if a traveller undergoes a PCR test and receives a negative result no more than 48 hours in advance of his/her arrival in Ukraine, or once in Ukraine.
How to get a PCR Test in Ukraine
It is possible to take a PCR test directly at some airports in Ukraine. Passengers can take a PCR test at the Lviv, Boryspil (Kyiv airport) and Kharkiv international airports. The whole procedure, including registration, takes approximately 15 minutes. Visitors will be tested on arrival and before departure. The results are prepared within 24 hrs.The result will be sent to the e-mail address specified by the passenger. If your result is negative, visitors who have installed the application 'Dii vdoma' will get a notice cancelling self-isolation.
