Kiev Transport time warp
The romance of travelling a bygone era
Locals will tell you that travelling the funicular in Kiev is as as it was in their childhood. The funicular connects the upper town with historical part of Kiev (Kyiv) Podol, and is ideal if you don’t fancy the walk up Andriyivsky Descent.
This is a beautiful funicular, constructed during 1902 – 1905, and was first opened to the public on the 7th May 1905. It is a fun and relaxed short journey, the total track length is 238 metres and each trip lasts about 3 minutes.
Tickets cost 8 UAH (as of May 2019) for a single journey and can be purchased inside the station. The Kiev Funicular leaves from Verkhnia Funicular Station in the Upper Town, or from next to Poshtova Ploshcha metro station at the bottom, which is near the Kiev River Port area.
You should absolutely make this part of your sightseeing itinerary - but remember to wear a comfortable pair of flat walking shoes.
